'To condense the raw beauty of a windswept hilltop, pounding sea or stormy sky into a few square feet of blank canvas is an endless challenge for me. My paintings are impressionist rather than faithfully representative. Sometimes a few strokes will evoke the spirit of the landscape, at other times the image will build slowly using layers of textured paint almost sculpted onto the canvas.  Oil paints and palette knives are my preferred tools in trying to translate what I see into what I feel and to somehow capture the mood of the ever-changing drama of the Cornish Landscape.'
